2026 - The Year of Simple Disciplines

Nature rewards simple actions repeated consistently and relentlessly.

It’s no longer a secret that the American Healthcare system is literally a meme.

In 2023, the USA spent $4.9 trillion on healthcare ($14,570 per person) and this accounted for 17.6% of gross domestic product. This is the highest among high-income countries.

A significant percentage of our economic output is based on our population being sick!

Check out this clip from South Park that illustrates the absurdity of what it can be like navigating the American healthcare system.

I keep thinking about this because clients, family, and I have experienced wading through a healthcare system that either did not provide a real solution or gaslit us into believing that our issues were just in our head.

"Everything looks normal. Just watch and wait. There’s no way that medication is causing those symptoms. Just take this medication forever. It’s completely safe! Let’s poke, prod, scan, and scope you again. Here’s a giant medical bill because it’s not covered by your insurance. Good luck!"

We cannot change a broken system if we continue to participate in that said system.

We need a way to opt out, and it’s not by continuing to pour energy into and participating in that system.

This newsletter is for those who want to opt out.

Enter The Medical Industrial Complex At Your Own Risk

Right before New Year’s Day, we ran into our neighbor, a seasoned primary care doctor.

He was on his way to see an elderly patient who recently lost his wife. This man’s wife was healthy until she got a COVID vaccine. She was not feeling well immediately after the injection and passed away within two weeks just before they were about to go on a trip together.

Our neighbor was on his way to visit his recently widowed patient and bring him some Chinese comfort food because he was not eating. It is safe to assume he was experiencing massive grief.

I have heard a number of these tragic stories the last few years and saw more cases of firsthand accounts of iatrogenic injury—injury caused by "properly" prescribed medication or procedures.

There’s no amount of money or remorse that can ever make up for these types of injuries.

I acknowledge that modern medicine has utility and can save lives, but I have spoken to enough cardiologists, hospitalists, and emergency room doctors that corroborate the reports that our medical system is near collapse.

Ironically enough, I came across this video from exactly these types of doctors:

The best case is to not need medical intervention in the first place.

I’ve wrestled with this quote since I graduated from medical school more than a decade ago:

“Superior doctors prevent the disease, mediocre doctors treat the disease before the evident, inferior doctors treat the full blown disease.”

The medical system is set up to treat full blown diseases.

And patients and healthcare consumers continue to take medications on blind trust, get elective procedures, and buy supplements without seriously weighing the potential downsides.

These decisions about medical interventions, whether natural or pharmaceutical, should be taken with a lot more care and consideration.

Realize that in nature, we are playing with probabilities and rarely binaries. Nothing is without potential trade offs and downsides.

This is how I’ve come to the conclusion that we should all focus on The ONE Thing that gives us the keys that allows us to opt out of the healthcare system.

Enter simple disciplines.

Why Simple Disciplines?

There is a concept of The ONE Thing from the book The ONE Thing by Jay Papasan and Gary Keller, entrepreneur and co-founder of Keller Williams Realty.

My copy of The ONE Thing by Jay Papsan

The key question at the heart of the book:

"What’s the ONE thing I can do such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?"

When we identify the ONE Thing to focus on, it is capable of compounding bigger results in a geometric progression—results compound slowly at first and then rapidly over time.

The book uses dominoes to demonstrate the power of the ONE Thing. As you can see below, Lorne Whitehead observed that a domino can knock down a larger domino that is 50 percent bigger.

If you recall from math class, this is called a geometric progression.

If the first domino is 2 inches tall with each subsequent domino being 50 percent taller, the 18th domino will be the height of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the 57th domino is almost the distance to the moon!

When I examine my life and the lives of other healthy people, simple disciplines always appear as The ONE Thing. This is why you can see two people of the same age in such different states of health.

The faster you can implement simple disciplines, the more likely they become habits, the more habits you build, the more consistent you become, the more consistent you become the more your health compounds, and the less likely you will have to become a customer of the Medical Industrial Complex.

99% of your life happens outside of the doctor’s office.

That 99% is where health is created or destroyed.

Has anyone optimized their health while hospitalized or sitting at a doctor’s office?

Once you receive treatment, your body still needs to be nourished and healed by your life outside the doctor’s office.

Simple disciplines are how we nourish and heal.

  • Even if I have a gym membership, I need to develop the simple discipline of scheduling and getting there.

  • Even if I have the best bed, I need to turn off my phone and go to sleep.

  • Even if you have a park or backyard, I still need to put on my EarthRunners and go outside.

  • Even if I know I know how to practice breath work and meditation, I still need to sit in quiet.

  • Even if I buy herbs and supplements, I have to take them properly.

  • Even if I have an Oura ring, I have to wear it and periodically look at the data and make changes.

  • Even if I have a red light panel, I have to set it up and turn it on every day.

  • Even if I have a great water filter, I need to fill up my water bottle and drink water.

Your health and your life will be determined by how effectively you implement and practice simple disciplines.

The simple disciplines turn potential energy into real, kinetic energy.

The Medical Industrial Complex profits most from consumers of healthcare.

Those who nourish and maintain their health through simple disciplines starve the Medical Industrial Complex and conserve their time and money to put towards more important things.

Which Simple Disciplines Matter The Most?

There is a constant push-pull in the health industry between being marketed fast, simple solutions (what we want) and the truth about how nature works (what we need).

There’s a massive financial incentive to have us consume more stuff that drives pharmaceutical, medical services, and natural products sales.

These are just tools.

Just like the best shoes does not make you the fastest runner, the best supplement stack will not make you a truly healthy person.

When we think the tool alone is a solution, you become another healthcare consumer.

The only way to truly transform your health is when these tools are used on top of the foundation of Healthy Living First.

Not Healthy Living Second or Healthy Living Optional.

These Foundations of Health are where I am now focusing my energy and recommendations to clients:

  • Light and circadian alignment

  • Mitochondrial function

  • Metabolic health

  • Healthy environment (food, air, water, electromagnetism)

  • Physical fitness

  • Mental and emotional fitness

The hard part is execution and practice, but it’s also hard to be sick.

The simple disciplines are a case of binaries—am I doing it or not? Yes or no?

I have had to ask myself this question many times over the years.

Having dealt with eczema, food intolerances, poor detox, and brain fog, I have tried a lot of things to get rid of these symptoms.

I tried steroid creams, herbs, supplements, elimination diets, and more.

After years and getting tired of trying all the different fads, I realized I was simply looking for a "fix" and not being honest about my actions.

I had to replace the old habits and environment that were holding my health back:

  • I went through my own Metabolic Reset four times to build habits around eating primarily whole, unprocessed food

  • I made simple permanent changes like filtering my water and running quality air filters to minimize toxins entering my body that were overloading my liver and detoxification systems

  • I started grounding outside and getting regular daylight exposure and minimizing artificial light at night

  • I invested in an infrared sauna I use daily to sweat and remove toxins and support mitochondrial health

  • I eliminated as many obligations that did not align with my goals

  • I scheduled workouts every week and move my body daily without fail

  • I started swapping out junk LED and fluorescent light bulbs with healthier full spectrum bulbs

  • I replaced most of my wardrobe with non-toxic natural fiber clothing

  • I prioritized quality sleep over staying out late

Layer by layer over the years these disciplines compounded.

I noticed one day that I could tolerate dairy without an eczema flare up. I could have a little alcohol occasionally without a flare up. I even accidentally ate peanuts, which I'm allergic to, and had minimal if any reaction. My visceral fat melted away. My brain worked better. My energy was more consistent. My mood was more consistently positive.

This one decision to install simple disciplines made medications and taking supplements and medical intervention mostly unnecessary.

Simple disciplines are my ONE Thing, and I encourage you to consider making it yours.

This is why in 2026, I’m being more direct about what really creates health because anything else would be a vote to support the broken medical system.

I would rather you spend your time, energy, and money having fun and doing meaningful things instead of working to just to feed the broken healthcare system.

I look forward to helping you become Un-prescribable this year so you can opt out of the Medical Industrial Complex once and for all.
